We are looking for a Specialist Electrical / Instrumentation to join the Fixed Plant & Engineering team at our Perth Operations Centre to provide technical expertise to the wider business at Rio Tinto Iron Ore.

This role is a great opportunity to shape and influence the way the business moves with the trialing of new technology, markets and equipment. Working 5 days on, 2 off roster and reporting to the Principal Engineer Electrical, you will: 

  • Work closely with Pilbara based Asset Management and maintenance teams to drive improvement work, provide technical support and identify replication opportunities
  • Work closely with major and sustaining capital projects, providing technical assurance and governance.
  • Own and maintain standards and whole of life strategies for electrical / instrumentation equipment, including substations, switchgear, transformers, cables, motors, PLC hardware, volumetric scanners, level sensors and other instrumentation used in the Iron Ore industry
  • Coordinate and monitor support from key vendors
  • Undertake root cause analysis on significant failures.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: 

  • Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering Degree
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in mining / oil / gas industry
  • Experience across the asset life cycle, including design, specification, installation, commissioning, obsolescence management, preventative & breakdown maintenance
  • Current knowledge of industry standards and best practices
  • Excellent networking and communication skills
  • Proven FMEA, RCA and problem-solving techniques
  • Manual C Class Drivers License

Highly Desirable

  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control
  • Certificate IV in Electrical Instrumentation
  • Experience with maintenance or asset management of instrumentation in a mining environment
  • Functional Safety Certification

Where you’ll be working

Perth-based at either the Operations Centre (OC) or Central Park offices, with ad hoc site travel
