About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent, you will be responsible for providing specialist technical expertise to the operation. This will involve the execution of tasks associated with providing mechanical engineering technical support and ensuring a robust risk and benefit-based assessment process is followed for engineering applications.

The Saraji open cut mine is a coal mine located near Dysart in the Central Queensland region of Australia. The mine is located 200 kilometres southwest of Mackay and 60 kilometres southeast of the mining town of Moranbah. The Saraji Coal Mine has coal reserves amounting to 648 million tonnes of coking coal, one of the largest coal reserves in Asia and the world. Coal produced at the Saraji mine is exported to overseas steel makers in India, the Americas, Europe, East Asia and South Asia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist mechanical engineering expertise and ensure robust change control processes and documentation standards are followed
  • Participate in reviews and audits and collaborate with discipline engineers across BMA
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to solve complex problems
  • Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives which support business priorities for continuous improvement
  • Support and govern the accurate maintenance of the Operation's blueprint (engineering standards, specifications drawings, processes, systems and procedures), ensuring approved modifications of its plant, equipment and infrastructure
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with relevant departments, suppliers, consultants and contractors
  • Ensure Safety, Constructability, Operability and Maintainability is preserved throughout the design lifecycle process

About You

As a member of the Saraji Engineering team, the following attributes will be key to your success:

  • You will preferably hold tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering. Persons holding tertiary qualifications in Structural or Mechatronic Engineering are also encouraged to apply.
  • You will have experience working in mining, minerals processing, or another heavy industrial environment.
  • Detailed understanding of engineering principles, standards and processes with a demonstrated practical and hands on approach
  • Well-developed communication and engagement skills with an interest in providing technical leadership, stewardship, support and solutions.
  • The ability to influence and build a relationship with a range of stakeholders at all levels of a business
  • Being a collaborative team player, committed to delivering results and able to operate with a high level of autonomy
  • Experience with fixed firefighting systems and asset integrity management is desirable however is not essential
  • Engineering registration and/or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is desirable
