About the roleFinding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.
As a Specialist Engineer Mining, you will lead and coordinate the Integrated Planning process across the Bauxite mining value chain, ensuring alignment between operational planning horizons and enabling functions.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Integrated Planning Manager, the Specialist Engineer Mining plays a pivotal role in;
- Governing Integrated Mine Planning processes, ensuring consistency, integration, and quality across planning inputs and outputs.
- Facilitating cross-functional planning integration, engaging with stakeholders such as Sustaining Capital, Closure, Refineries, Land & Rehabilitation, and Finance to ensure planning reflects business priorities and constraints.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance planning efficiency, data quality, and stakeholder collaboration.
- Supporting scenario development and reconciliation, enabling informed decision-making across strategic and operational horizons.
- Championing integrated planning governance, ensuring processes are well-documented, repeatable, and aligned with Rio Tinto standards.
- Providing insights and recommendations based on planning performance trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Undertaking projects that support the integrated planning process across sites, including business case analysis, productivity initiatives, and other improvement opportunities.
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Tertiary Qualifications in Mining Engineering or similar from an accredited institution.
- Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy CP and / or Board of Professional Engineers RPEQ status
- Ideally a minimum of four (5) years mining experience, with at least three (3) years in open cut mining.
- Experience in other facets within the mining industry, aside from mining engineering, will also be highly regarded
- Excellent numerical analysis and data validation skills
- Knowledge of relevant mining legislation and industry practices
- Detailed understanding of Truck & Loaders design, scheduling and operation
- Practical understanding of all other open pit mining design, scheduling and operation
- High level proficiency in basic business software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint or similar)
- Advanced proficiency in Deswik & Power Bi
- The motivation and ability to be self-driven and work autonomously
