About The Role
Join our Process Engineering & Major Hazards function here at Rio Tinto, as a Specialist Engineer – Process Control in the Project Delivery team. In this unique role, you’ll lead and execute complex control system solutions that reduce business risk, improve productivity, and support strategic priorities.
Reporting to the Superintendent Process Control Delivery, some of the responsibilities you may be required to undertake are:
Lead the design, development, commissioning and operational readiness of control systems within the project portfolio
Provide technical leadership to project teams, including standards, engineering workflows and decision-making
Manage delivery, cost, schedule, quality, stakeholder engagement and risk at the project level
Collaborate to standardise and continuously improve control system development practices and tools
Support systems post-delivery through breakdown recovery, incident investigation and SME-level escalation
Review and contribute to control system standards in areas of expertise
Coordinate contractors to execute project deliverables
Mentor and support interns, graduates, and fellow engineers in the Mechatronics and Control Systems discipline
Adhere to “The Way We Work”, including processes for change management and approvals
What you will bring:
Tertiary qualification in Mechatronics, Control Systems, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Proficiency in capital project delivery processes and project management stages
Strong influencing, stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
Advanced skills in industrial automation platforms (e.g. PLC, SCADA)
Knowledge of process control philosophies and advanced control systems
Familiarity with programming languages and IT/OT infrastructure
Understanding of electrical and instrumentation standards
Experience in data processing and analytical tools
Manual 'C' Class Driver's Licence
