About the role  

As a Specialist Engineer for Rail Infrastructure you will be responsible for providing specialist technical expertise in rail infrastructure across the division, ensuring the development, review, and implementation of engineering standards that support safe, cost-effective, and reliable design and installations.

In addition, you will lead sustainable maintenance optimization initiatives to enhance asset reliability and performance and apply your advanced knowledge in materials science and metallurgy to support lifecycle planning, failure analysis, and asset forecasting.

As part of this role you will contribute to safe and sustainable asset management through strategic technical collaboration and integration and deliver expert input into rail infrastructure maintenance, with valuable experience in railway welding techniques, including flash butt and aluminothermic welding processes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of the asset management systems

  • Identifies improvement opportunities within asset management systems and processes

  • Works in collaboration with business units and sites to sustain and imbed asset management systems and processes

  • Contribute to the development and review of engineering standards and approve engineering drawings for rail infrastructure.

  • Respond to technical queries in alignment with established engineering standards.

  • Act as the technical authority, reviewing engineering changes and auditing compliance with performance standards.

  • Provide subject matter expertise and support for engineering across maintenance, operations, and project delivery teams.

  • Offer technical direction for asset maintenance and support long-term planners.

  • Promote safety awareness and encourage safe work practices.

  • Influence individuals and teams to deliver outcomes aligned with asset management strategies.

  • Identify and contribute to cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Metallurgical / Materials experience or qualifications

  • Knowledge of asset management principles

  • Understanding of project management principles

  • Demonstrated organisational skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in root cause and problem-solving techniques
