About the Role
We currently have a full time opportunity to join our Health, Safety and Environment team as an Environment Specialist at Goonyella Riverside Mine Site in the Bowen Basin. The Specialist provides subject matter expertise into the design and establishment of environment standards, procedures, and systems while facilitates and supports line management for environmental risk assessments, event investigation, field leadership and compliance. You will be responsible for collection of sampling for analysis and reporting. You will utilise your excellent relationship building and people skills to deliver a wide range of environmental services and initiatives.
This role is offered on a 5:2 Monday to Friday roster, on a residential or DIDO basis. Flexible work options will be considered.
Reporting directly to the HSE Superintendent, you will be required to:
- Work in partnership with line leadership to employ effective controls to manage environmental risks;
- Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Our Requirements Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant regulators and key site and function Superintendents;
- Assist with the implementation of and support the governance of the Environment Management System;
- Support the development of technical capabilities of the operational and greater Coal environment team;
- Collection of required samples and interpretation of the results of the samples to ensure compliance with the Environmental Authority;

About You
To be successful in this role, you will be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail will be a vital attribute, along with strong business acumen and the ability to build consultative and influential relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You will also have:
- Tertiary Qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering.
- Experience on-site within the resources industry.
- Experience in addressing legislative environmental requirements.
- Current Australian Drivers licence.
- Sound GIS capabilities will also be highly regarded.
