About the Role
Reporting to the Superintendent HSE, this is a unique opportunity to utilise your skills and experience with one of the world's largest coal producers - BMA's Peak Downs Mine Site. In this role, you will provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the operation on environment standards, procedures, environmental risk assessments, event investigation, field leadership and compliance. You will be responsible for the execution of environmental monitoring, data management, review of plans and reporting.
This role is offered on a 5:2 roster Monday to Friday with flexible travel arrangements available for the right candidate.
As the successful candidate, you will:
- Ensure compliance to licence conditions, implement monitoring programs, management plans and work management strategies
- Coordinate the identification, scoping of improvement projects
- Engage with local regulators regarding site environmental performance
- Promote continuous improvement
- Educate and consult with operational teams to provide technical environment advice and support
- Assist with the management of mine site rehabilitation
- Provide environment disturbance permit approval
- Managing environment data and associated databases
- Perform validation of all environment monitoring data for inclusion in internal and external reports
- Monitor and report on aspects such as Water, Dust, Groundwater, and Noise
- Educate the workforce on environmental best practice
- Manage and supervise third-party contracts
- Implement and maintain the Environment Management System
About You
To be successful in the Environment Specialist role you will have a genuine desire to achieve positive environmental outcomes.
You will have:
- Tertiary qualification in either Environmental Management, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering
- Possess site experience in a similar role within the resources industry
- Experience in addressing legislative environmental requirements and sound GIS capabilities will be highly regarded
- The ability to develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships, with excellent communication skills
- A commitment to coaching, influencing, and encouraging the workforce
- The ability to work closely and share workload with your team but also be comfortable working autonomously when required. You will be motivated by a fast-paced environment and the opportunity to problem solve and drive positive change
- Willingness to learn new skills, you are energetic and driven to meet challenges as they arise, as well as having strong attention to detail and the ability to meet multiple deadline
