About the Role
We currently have a 12 month Fixed Term opportunity for an Environment Specialist Greenhouse Gas (GHG) to join our Environmental Approvals Stewardship and Technical team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative and supportive team that embodies our Charter Values. The role is based in Perth on a standard Monday to Friday roster, however, flexible work options will be considered. Travel to our Pilbara operations may be required from time to time to support execution of supporting work for our environmental approvals.
Reporting to the Superintendent Environment Approvals Stewardship and Technical, your primary responsibility will be to support delivery of major environmental approvals as an experienced Greenhouse Gas professional, to support BHP Western Australia Iron Ore’s business plan. You will provide functional expertise, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams within the business to ensure that relevant strategies and supporting environmental approval documentation meet BHP and government requirements.
In this role you will:
- Prepare Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emission forecasts for a wide range of assets within Iron Ore, aligned with National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) reporting methods;
- Estimate GHG emissions from land clearing utilising FullCAM methodologies;
- Prepare GHG forecasts aligned with the GHG Protocol to determine Scope 3 emissions;
- Coordinate with mine planning and studies to determine and evaluate information required to generate forecasts and predicted emissions reductions;
- Estimate GHG reductions from GHG reduction projects and/or development scenarios;
- Support the development of EPA Greenhouse Gas Management Plans, including technical writing and coordination of internal and external peer-review; and
- Support other environmental activities and initiatives as directed by the business.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, sustainability or related field or equivalent related work experience;
- Demonstrated experience in project planning, management, and delivery of technical projects;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and influence with impact across multiple functional groups and across all levels;
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business needs; and
- Sound planning, organisational and time management skills.
Ideally candidates may also possess:
- Sound understanding of relevant greenhouse gas legislation, in particular the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (Measurement) Determination 2008, and greenhouse gas accounting experience.
- Sound understanding of relevant environmental legislation, in particular Part IV and Part V of the Western Australia Environmental Protection Act 1986.
- Sound knowledge of carbon accounting principles and carbon offsetting strategies.
