About Oak Dam

The Oak Dam copper discovery is an exciting undeveloped iron oxide copper-gold-uranium mineralised system located on the traditional lands of the Kokatha People, 500km north of Adelaide and 65km south-east of Olympic Dam, South Australia.

Since discovery in 2018, we have been progressing resource definition drilling to advance geological knowledge and commenced order of magnitude studies to identify viable development pathways with the potential to materially contribute towards BHP’s copper growth strategy.

About the Role

This Specialist role is required to collect and deliver environmental data and information for Minerals Australia newest development, Oak Dam, to successfully meet environmental regulatory and reporting requirements that support this early stage.

Key to this role will be assisting in environmental assessments and site monitoring activities, providing specialist advice to the site operations team on environmental matters and supporting key stakeholders in providing and analysing environmental data to meet reporting obligations.

This role can be offered as FIFO ex-Adelaide or Residential Roxby Downs on an 7/7 Roster.  This role will be based at a combination of Olympic Dam and Oak Dam.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • The collection of environmental (including radiological) field and operational data to support regulatory approval documentation and meet compliance commitments
  • Coordination of environmental monitoring and field studies in support of environmental approval applications
  • Supervision and support for consultants and contractors in the field, including review and application of safety documentation and compliance with regulatory commitments related to environmental and land management
  • Management of environmental samples and analytical data in accordance with BHP systems, processes and procedure
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of business-wide standards for environmental management, including development, review and implementation of work management procedures
  • Effectively collaborating with internal stakeholders and, consultants to ensure adherence to, and develop of key documentation to maintain Operational and Project schedules
  • Aligning deliverables with internal business requirements and relevant statutory requirements to support the development and implementation of an Oak Dam Environmental Management System (EMS)

About You

To be successful in this role you will be able to work both independently and autonomously in remote environments.  Attention to detail will be a vital attribute, along with strong business acumen and a passion for excellence. 

You will also have: 

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, or related discipline
  • Knowledge of legislative state and federal environmental requirements
  • Experience in environmental management, including field data collection, quality assurance processes and database management
  • Exposure working in environmentally challenging or remote physical environments
  • The ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to collect and analyse environmental data
  • Proficiency in the use of ESRI ArcGIS and spatial data management
  • Exposure to project management, working to timeframes and contractor management
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to achieve project outcomes
