About the role

This is a permanent full-time role being offered on a 4:3 roster (Mon-Thu), FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. 

Reporting to the Manager External Affairs, the Specialist External Affairs is responsible for the development and implementation of effective communication strategies to support the External Affairs Strategy.

Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the successful candidate will implement communication activities that inform and improve engagement with employees and community members. The Specialist will connect with the South32 Corporate Communications team to provide input into the Corporate Communications activities and deliver GEMCO content for inclusion on South32 social media channels.

Some of your main responsibilities will include: 

• Collaborate with management to develop and implement a communications plan and execute internal and external communications activities to support effective engagement with employees and local communities
• Develop communications strategies as required in response to emerging issues
• Deliver content for South32 website, social media, intranet, sustainability reporting requirements and other marketing material that communicates the organisation's activities, products and/or services.
• Support the execution of GEMCO’s events program and support local community event delivery
• Engage regularly with GEMCO’s community partners and community members

To be considered for the role, you will have:

• Qualification in Communications, Public Relations or a related field
• Minimum 12 months experience in Communications or related discipline
• Persuasive written and verbal communication skills including the ability to simplify complex, technical information into straightforward messaging suitable for a range of audiences
• High level of attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability to manage competing tasks
• Event management experience preferred
• Experience working in regional or remote Indigenous communities is preferred
