Specialist Geologist (Resource Estimation)

About the role

We are looking for a Specialist Geologist (Resource Estimation) to provide resource estimations within a dedicated, multi-discipline, Perth based Resource Development team. 

The primary focus of the role is to create resource models that can be used by stakeholders to ensure that our Pilbara mines maximise the ore at the required product grade that is delivered into our extensive supply chain. The right candidate must have a degree in Geology.  The role will be accountable for:

·       Completion of resource models, and the reports that support them, to an appropriate standard and in a timely manner.

·       Undertaking resource estimations using appropriate geostatistical methods.

·       Ensuring the resource estimate is fit-for-purpose and delivered to RTIO standards.

·       Communicating and presenting to key stakeholders

·       Data management

·       Produce product grade and material-type predictions

·       Understanding of Reconciliation process to improve models for mine scheduling and as a validation tool for the models

·       Ensuring the appropriate level of risk is quantified and accounted for in the resource models.

About you

The right candidate must have degree in Geology. 

  • Degree or equivalent tertiary studies in Geostatistics is desirable
  • Demonstrated collaborative and communication skills with multiple stakeholders
  • A minimum of 5 years industry experience
  •  An understanding of how resource models impact the value chain from exploration through to production, mine plans and final product sales
  • Understanding and dealing with reconciliation issues within the estimation process
  • Understanding of sampling methods, assay laboratories, and Quality Assurance / Quality Controls practices
  •  Self-motivated with a drive for success and continuous improvement
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • An ability to manage and evaluate large geoscientific data sets
  • Knowledge of 3D geological and geostatistical modelling software (Vulcan, Isatis/Neo and Leapfrog preferable).
  • Strong commitment to Rio Tinto Values, Behaviours and Safety
  • A current and valid Western Australia “C” class licence, or equivalent is preferable.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

·       Mine Geology, Exploration or Grade Control experience.

As a Resource Estimation Geologist, there are opportunities for travelling to mine sites to engage with site based Mine Technical Services and Resource Development.
