About the role
We are seeking a Specialist Geoscientist to join the Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) Resource Geology team.
The primary focus of the role is creating geological models and completing resource estimates to support the development of orebodies for the future of RTIO.
The role reports to the Superintendent Geoscience within the Modelling and Data Systems (MDS) team of Resource Development.
Role Responsibilities:
Completion of Geological Models using geoscientific data.
Undertaking Resource Estimations using geostatistical methods.
Ensuring the models are fit-for-purpose and delivered to RTIO standards.
Communicating and presenting to stakeholders
Data management
Using reconciliation data to improve and validate models
Ensuring risks are flagged and communicated.
Contributing to, and implementing continuous Improvement initiatives
Required Skills:
The right candidate must have a Geology degree, along with
Demonstrated collaboration and communication skills.
Being self-motivated with a drive for success and continuous improvement.
Commitment to Rio Tinto Values, Behaviours and Safety.
An understanding of how resource models impact the value chain.
The ability to use reconciliation data to understand problems and aid the estimation process.
An understanding of sampling methods, assay laboratories, and QA / QC.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Have a good understanding of the nature of deposit types, mineralogy and material types across RTIO.
An ability to manage and evaluate large geoscientific data sets.
A working knowledge of 3D geological and geostatistical modelling software (including, but not limited to Vulcan, Isatis/Neo, Supervisor and Leapfrog) is preferable.
A minimum of 5 years industry experience.
A current and valid Western Australia “C” class licence, or equivalent is preferable.
Desired Skills:
Mine Geology, Exploration, and/or Grade Control experience.
University level qualifications in Geostatistics.
