We are looking for enthusiastic and high performing Specialist Geotechnical Assurance to join our technical services team in Perth. You will provide geotechnical assurance support to mine technical and operations teams, and ensure slope risks are managed according to Rio Tinto and regulatory standards.

Reporting to the Principal Geotechnical Engineer - Assurance, you will:

  • Provide review and assurance activities under regulatory and company standards (D3) for mine and non-mine asset slope risk management
  • Coordinate and assist with internal and external review activities and manage improvement actions
  • Complete risk management documentation, reporting, and ensure timely stakeholder engagement to manage mining slope hazards
  • Utilize your experience and expertise to provide mentoring to junior staff, facilitate trainings, and guide best practices across multiple assets in slope risk management and monitoring
  • Interface with IS&T and site teams to ensure monitoring system health, risk data management, and identify leading technologies for slope performance monitoring
  • Be familiar with geotechnical characterization and design work to identify residual risks and controls needed for implementation and opportunities through reconciliation activities
  • Have strong communication and inter-personal skills to engage and influence large groups of multi-disciplinary stakeholders

About you

With tertiary qualifications in Science, Earth Science or Engineering, you will have considerable experience in mining operations and slope risk management. Post graduate qualifications in rock mechanics and geology will be advantageous as will specific knowledge and experience with slope hazard management tools.

You will have excellent technical reporting writing skills, strong organisational skills and the ability to manage projects and prioritise work. A current C class driver’s licence will be required and design experience in the Pilbara or similar structurally complex terrains will be well regarded.

This role will work out of Rio Tinto’s Perth CBD Central Park offices with flexible working arrangements. This position will suit Perth based residents, or those willing to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis, who will embrace the opportunity of ad hoc site travel.
