Specialist Geotechnical Engineer

Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

Roster: 8D/6R – FIFO ex Perth

The Specialist Geotechnical Engineer role provides technical guidance in geotechnical design for our Iron Bridge Project as well as all sustaining development projects. 

In this position, you will draw upon your experience with mining operations, geotechnical characterisation, and slope stability analysis, to provide safe and value adding direction in geotechnical design processes. You will also be responsible for implementing best practice design in alignment with regulatory and industry guidelines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead geotechnical modelling analysis and reporting related to open pits and waste rock dumps.
  • Support active operations in the implementation of geotechnical designs and monitoring program definition.
  • Undertake studies associated with active mining operations and sustaining development projects.
  • Support geotechnical data collection and management to facilitate slope design.
  • Provide technical advice and consultation with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assess emerging global technologies in geotechnical engineering.
  • Support the development, implementation, and management of geotechnical design standards associated with open pit slope and waste rock dump design

Qualifications and skills required:

  • A tertiary qualification in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, Engineering geology, or similar is preferred
  • Extensive open pit mining experience with significant design exposure
  • Experience in a range of geological, geotechnical and hydrogeological settings
  • Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated experience of communicating to a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong data management and manipulation skills are essential
  • Strong team skills and willingness to spend short durations on site
