About the Role

The Specialist Governance is a member of the Group Governance team based in Melbourne, reporting to the Head of Governance.  

The Specialist will work across the Group Governance team providing support on governance issues, projects and major transactions as they arise from time to time. The role will also support the Head of Governance in planning and prepararation for Board events and meetings.

This is a full time position based in the BHP Melbourne Office, flexible work options are available which will be discussed at interview.

The Specialist is accountable for: 

  • Governance issues and projects: supporting the Group Governance team on governance issues, best practice and discrete projects, including benchmarking, monitoring and research on changes to the governance regulatory environment and identifying emerging governance risks, challenges and opportunities. 
  • Transactions: working with the Heads of Governance across the team to support and manage corporate transactions from time to time, including acquisitions or divestments.  
  • Board: supporting the Head of Governance with planning, management and preparation for Board meetings. This will include working closely with the Head of Goveranance, Group Investment Review Committee Office and other key stakeholders to manage Board approval and oversight of major capital projects and certain investments. 

About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:  

  • Bachelor of Laws
  • Strong verbal and written communication with personnel at senior levels.
  • Ability to win the trust and confidence of stakeholders and operate as a trusted adviser.
  • Adaptable to change; works well with ambiguity; ability to prioritise multiple critical tasks, and flexibility to alter priorities.  
  • Indicates a willingness to speak up, take responsibility and lead outcomes.
  • Ability to work autonomously and also effectively within a team and is a positive contributor to the team.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and deliver projects involving multiple key stakeholders, which often requires an ability to integrate and plan a range of activities.
