ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a Permanent 9-day fortnight working arrangement – located on our Boddington mine site, located a short drive from the community of Boddington (10 minutes), Pinjarra (50 minutes) and the City of Mandurah (1 hour).
Please note that there is no Camp onsite.
The purpose of this role as Specialist Health & Safety is In Safety & Training at South32, we put our values of Care, Trust, Togetherness and Excellence into action. We provide leadership, expertise and direction to generate value (social, environmental and economic) now and into the future. Our work ensures everyone goes home safe and well at the end of every shift, thus allowing the execution of the South32 strategy and ongoing prosperity for us and our stakeholders.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Partner with Boddington operations to identify risks in daily work and ensure practical, effective controls are in place.
- Support teams in planning jobs and assessing hazards, offering risk management guidance and following up to verify controls are working.
- Assist with investigations into incidents and hazards, ensuring real causes are understood and acted on.
- Contribute to safety improvement projects that deliver meaningful outcomes.
- Support fatality risk processes by checking critical controls and identifying areas for improvement.
- Coach frontline supervisors and crews in conducting effective risk checks and closing out gaps.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Has experience working in operational environments (e.g. mining, construction, heavy industry) and understands how risks are managed in practice.
- Is practical and solutions-focused, able to guide teams in managing risks in a way that works for them.
- Is eager to learn technical safety skills – we can support you with this if you bring the right mindset.
- Builds trusted relationships and can communicate risk concepts clearly and simply.
- Likes being out in the field, working alongside teams to solve problems and improve safety.
- Is passionate about making work safer through practical, hands-on improvement.
Qualifications for this position are:
- Certificate IV/Diploma Work Health & Safety and similar/related industry experience
- Requires knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to the effective management of safety related risks.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business needs and circumstances
- Demonstrated experience in executing technical safety related work
