Location
Brisbane with regular travel across allocated sites (2 days per week, 3 weeks a month)
About the Role
The HRBP Specialist acts as a strategic enabler and hands-on delivery partner across BMA sites, translating people strategy into disciplined frontline execution.
The role partners closely with Managers and Superintendents, and works alongside HRBP Principals to uplift leadership capability, strengthen talent pipelines, improve productivity outcomes, and embed BMA’s People & Culture priorities at site level. The HRBP Specialist has a strong operational presence, deep site engagement, and a relentless focus on execution, insight and follow-through.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Partnership & Site Engagement
- Partner with Managers, Superintendents and functional leaders across allocated sites to implement people initiatives and build strong coaching relationships.
- Provide HR business partner presence at site, bridging enterprise people strategy with frontline execution
- Align to nominated HRBP Principal strategic work and support delivery of priority initiatives across sites and functions.
- Maintain a visible site presence through regular travel, participation in BOS routines, field leadership activities and listening sessions
Talent, Performance & Capability
- Lead and facilitate Talent Calibration and succession discussions at site and functional level, ensuring quality talent profiles and data integrity within SAP.
- Drive robust goal and development planning through leader upskilling, quality reviews, and layered audits.
- Identify and build succession pipelines for Supervisors and Superintendents, with a focus on HIPo identification and readiness.
- Coach leaders to effectively use Employee Perception Survey (EPS) insights to lift performance, capability and leadership effectiveness.
- Support leaders to identify, manage and correct underperformance through data-led insights and partnership with Employee Relations.
Inclusion & Diversity
- Coach leaders to deliver Inclusion & Diversity commitments aligned to the BMA People & Culture Plan.
- Support development and execution of site and functional hiring plans aligned to I&D targets.
- Provide direct guidance to hiring managers to support inclusive decision-making.
- Monitor and report on I&D progress to site and asset leadership forums.
Productivity and Workforce Discipline
- Coach leaders in effective absenteeism management and support Absenteeism Management Improvement Plans (MIPs).
- Monitor and assist with remediation of productivity-related issues including absenteeism, span of control and roster optimisation.
- Provide insight into workforce trends and risks to drive sustainable productivity outcomes.
Employee Relations & Change
- Support execution of site-based change initiatives including organisational change and workforce transitions.
- Partner with ER colleagues to identify and manage emerging risks.
- Assist with communications during Enterprise Agreement negotiations and people-sensitive initiatives.
Improvement, Governance & Ways of Working
- Support delivery of site-level improvement projects aligned to People & Culture priorities.
- Participate in and lead HRBP routines including MOPs, MIPs, pre-starts and PPS activities.
- Conduct structured problem-solving activities and share learnings across the HRBP team.
- Maintain people-related site content to improve leader self-service and knowledge.
- Ensure disciplined execution of agreed HRBP routines, scorecards and reporting.
About You
- Experience in HR within complex, operational or industrial environments.
- Proven ability to coach and influence frontline leaders and leadership teams.
- Experience driving talent, performance, capability and workforce initiatives at scale.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to translate data and insights into practical actions.
- Comfortable operating in site-based environments with regular travel requirements.
Desirable
- Experience in mining, heavy industry or large unionised workforces.
- Exposure to BOS / Lean / continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting enterprise or site-level change and transformation initiatives.
