ABOUT CANNINGTON  

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a permanent position FIFO from Cairns, Townsville, Brisbane or DIDO Mt Isa. 

The role of the Specialist Hygiene provides specialist support and advice to operation-based and functional teams on hygiene management aspects to support:

  • adherence to the South32 Health Standard
  • legal compliance and material-risk mitigation at the operational level
  • the delivery of the functional business plan, hygiene authorisations and strategic improvement projects

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • Provide operational support and technical advice/coaching for effective management of site hygiene matters including lead, silica, dust, DPM, welding-fumes, chemical management & water;
  • Design and execute hygiene monitoring programs ensuring that they are fit for purpose, aligned with regulatory requirements and the operational risk profile;
  • Identify and coordinate/execute site specific improvement initiatives that will deliver a more efficiency and/or effective functional service, or support improved hygiene outcomes for the operation;
  • Support the delivery of the business-level strategic improvement initiatives relevant to the operation, in collaboration with the Global Discipline Team and the operation;
  • Regular reporting and consultation with RSHQ and similar local mining operations;
  • Mentoring the Hygiene Graduate throughout their 2-year graduate program;
  • Directing and supporting the site hygiene sampling plan and respirator & hearing protection fit-testing program.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Site based hygiene position (min 3 years)
  • Sound communication, interpersonal, negotiation and facilitation skills
  • Sound understanding of hygiene management processes and technologies and relevant industry standards
  • Sound understanding of safety, health and hygiene legislative requirements and associated standards such as QGL02 &QGL04
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships (face-to-face and remote relationships)
  • Experience in identifying issues, analysing data and recommending sensible and practical improvement solutions

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Undergraduate or post graduate qualification in Occupational Hygiene or related (E.g. Health Science related, Chemistry / Toxicology)
  • Full member of AIOH or ability to attain full membership
