Nickel West is a fully integrated mine-to-market business. Our culture is rich with technical know-how, highly efficient and focused on innovation. The business employs over 2500 people from five operations across Western Australia comprising of nickel underground and open-cut mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery. About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Processing, you will be passionate about transformation and improving the business. You will be highly adept at deriving insights from a range of different data sources, visualising and communicating these insights to guide leadership decision-making, resource prioritisation, and ultimately deliver high-value projects. This role is suited to an energetic, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who is seeking an influential role within a leading organisation.

Additional key responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrating a clear focus and passion for Safety Leadership.
  • Managing relationships with our customer and functional stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes and enhancing our communications both within the Leinster operations and across BHP.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and training of colleagues and leaders in continuous improvement mindset, methodology and tools.
  • Supporting the BHP Operating System (BOS) deployment team, including coaching the concentrator teams during their routines and driving improvement at all levels.
  • Be the site custodian of Wave and help the teams to navigate the system and update initiatives to track our cost saving and revenue initiatives on site.
  • Support the organisation with identification, development and facilitating delivery of improvement projects that are linked to Key Value Drivers to meet business objectives using BHP’s Operating System and proven Project Management methodologies.
  • Working closely with stakeholders across the Leinster Concentrator team and key functions to ensure that relevant business problems are defined and investigated, facilitating complex problem solving using a structured problem-solving approach defined, including setting the problem context, understanding the business requirements and success measures, and managing potential challenges.
  • Aptitude for data analytics & identifying where constraints and or correlation analysis, modelling and performance benchmarking may be required to identify opportunities and bottlenecks.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of our annual business planning cycle.
  • Actively challenging our mindsets to create and allow breakthrough solutions.

About You

Your ‘fresh thinking’ mindset, skills in coaching, mentoring, problem solving and facilitation with the ability to challenge existing thinking will be key to your success in this role. Ideally, you are passionate, have high energy levels, the drive to continuously improve every day and may possess some or all of the following:

  • 'Safety first' as an uncompromised core value.
  • Prior experience in cost and productivity efficiency projects.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Prior experience in portfolio and project management.
  • Demonstrated capability in project scoping, planning and execution using a disciplined approach to achieving project goals.
  • Practical experience in mining, minerals processing and resource industries.
  • Desirable to have tertiary qualifications within Business, Data Science, Computer Science, IT, Engineering or Mathematics, Lean Six Sigma or other Business Improvement qualifications.

Location

Nickel West Leinster is located 375 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.  The operation sources nickel ore from the Perseverance Underground Mine and Cliffs Underground Mine before crushing and processing to produce a concentrate.  The Leinster Village and Township offer a unique lifestyle with all the modern conveniences and plenty to keep you entertained - take the heat off at the end of the day and head to the Olympic sized pool - or join in a regular social game of sports, there is a health and fitness center, other social activities including movie nights, a race-course and even an 18 hole golf course. Employees either commute to and from Perth on a fly in / fly out roster or live residentially within the township of Leinster, consisting of approximately 1000 residents.
