About the Role

The Specialist Investigations and Business Intelligence role is primarily responsible for conducting financial fraud investigations as a key member of BHP’s Global Investigations Team. This role combines the performance of investigations and providing real time insights in relation to Ethics & Investigations matters.  Core accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Investigates financial fraud Category A Matters across BHP’s global operations in accordance with the Response & Investigations Framework, including:

  • Effectively and efficiently plans and delivers investigations.
  • Prepares investigation plans and strategies including determining process, parameters, and investigation outputs.
  • Prepares for and conducts interviews with both internal and external investigation participants to gather evidence, determine further actions, and ensure procedural fairness and compliance with procedures and legislation.
  • Exercises judgment and applies technical knowledge to make findings whether allegations of serious misconduct are established.
  • Analyses organisational factors related to investigation outcomes.  
  • Proactively engages with relevant investigation participants and stakeholders, anticipating and responding to needs of different stakeholders and provides progress updates while ensuring the protection of sensitive information.
  • Prepares investigation reports and closure memos outlining the investigative activities undertaken 
  • Exercises mature judgement, tenacity and manages concurrent investigations while focused on personal wellbeing and organisational risk.
  • Builds and maintains highly productive working relationships within Ethics and Investigations, in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Creates a culture of trust and collaboration with Assets and Functions to foster a learning environment 

Provides data insights and trends from investigations data, including:

  • Analyses, validates and models data to identify insights and trends to share with stakeholders.
  • Contributes and support the design, preparation and delivery of data reports. 
  • Support the team through the performance of data extractions and queries to support investigation activities.

About You

As an effective communicator, you will bring professionalism and a strong ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships. You are skilled at managing interpersonal conflicts, high conflict personalities and situations. 

With experience in conducting financial fraud investigations, you will have strong oral and written communication skills and problem solving skills. 

You have excellent data storytelling skills and proven experience using a variety of systems, data analytics and data visualisation tools including PowerBI, SQL, Spotfire, Tableau and SAP.  To compliment your vast knowledge of system and data visualisation tools, you are highly proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Power Apps, Power Automate and Power Query. 

More formal requirements of the role are:

  • Minimum three years’ experience conducting criminal, regulatory, corporate or government workplace investigations and the analysis and visualisation of data from complex data sets and systems.
  • Degree qualified in law, investigations, accounting, data science or related fields (or extensive relevant equivalent experience).
