Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

People are at the heart of our business. For nearly 150 years, we have been producing materials essential to human progress – minerals and metals that are still part of everyday life, including the iron ore that shapes the skylines of cities around the world.

We are looking for a Specialist – Maintenance Excellence Coaching – Shutdown to play a key role in delivering a transformational program across Rio Tinto iron ore and coastal sites.

This role is a great opportunity for a high calibre individual to join Maintenance Excellence and take stakeholders on a journey to improve shutdowns.

Reporting to the Principal – Maintenance Excellence Coaching Lead and working in a collaborative team, you will be:

  • Coaching and influencing project owners to deliver results quickly and with maximum value.
  • Leading a shift change in the effectiveness and usage of our shut management tools, systems, and processes.
  • Assisting in the facilitation of our transformation program, including delivery of training and workshops.
  • Creating a site culture of sustainable improvement.
  • Auditing and reviewing progress and compliance for sustainability.
  • Assisting to interpreting costs and production drivers to inform strategic thinking and the evaluation and prioritisation of shutdown scopes.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Maintenance planning, engineering or shut supervision background
  • Proven experience managing major shutdowns and outages in heavy industry
  • Previous experience following structured Shut Management processes
  • The ability to quickly form trusting relationships and demonstrate genuine passion for change processes.
  • Relevant tertiary or trade qualification
  • The ability to influence and coach stakeholders
  • Active communications skills to be a key driver in continuous improvement
  • The ability to work autonomously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
