About the role

The MRO team is currently seeking a Specialist (J-Band) based in Perth CBD. This role will be responsible for the execution and ongoing refinement of the MRO Strategy across several large subcategories including electrical and HVAC parts and consumables. Priority areas in this regard will include consolidating spend with our preferred contracted suppliers, optimising the range of products we buy, and ensuring effective buy channels are established that improve the efficiency of how we buy while delivering an enhanced end user experience.

We are looking for a highly driven and commercially astute individual, who has a desire to deliver value within the portfolio, minimise risk for Rio Tinto and develop innovative solutions to problems. Success in this regard will rely heavily on a proven ability to build excellent relationships with internal stakeholder groups and contracted supplier partners and coordinate joint efforts to deliver shared value.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Goods and Repairs you will:

  • Lead the implementation of a comprehensive regional category management strategy and the development of agreements to minimise total cost and maximise value that will drive competitive advantage
  • Actively participate in and contribute to Procurement priority projects related to standardisation, reducing waste and simplifying the way we source materials across our business
  • Undertake rigorous fact base development based on internal requirements and transactional efficiencies that will be the basis of ensuring we are realising value in the portfolio
  • Successfully build open and trusting relationships, working in a collaborative environment with internal and external stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand
  • Put in place a strong supplier relationship management structure to strengthen partnership and value creation for both Rio Tinto and our supply partners

What you’ll bring

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Strong team player mindset with the desire to positively contribute to an engaged and inclusive culture
  • Category management experience with a strong understanding of processes, practices and systems, MRO or indirect goods experience is desirable
  • Project and change management experience with a track record of delivering highly valued outcomes
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to constructively influence others
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to balance multiple and competing priorities

Where you will be working

You will be based out of our Perth CBD office, in the Central Park building. We do offer flexible working arrangements and the option to work from home.
