Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25km outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for:

The Specialist Metallurgist is accountable for the metallurgical functions underpinning the performance and compliance of Cadia’s molybdenum processing plant (Moly Plant). They provide technical support and deliver projects to the benefit of the Moly Plant, ensuring the plant is operated and continuously improved in a safe, respectful and sustainable manner to achieve business outcomes.

Other responsibilities include:

Technical accountabilities

  • Provide technical and process safety guidance to the Operations team.
  • Investigate and implement molybdenum processing best practice.
  • Maintain a well stocked pipeline of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Steer the design, execution and commissioning of capital projects.
  • Oversight of mid month and end of month metallurgical accounting.

Planning accountabilities       

  • Forecast physicals, variable costs and capital expenditure.
  • Investigate and report on variances to the production, CAPEX and OPEX forecasts.
  • Identify, escalate and intercept risks to the forecasts.

People accountabilities          

  • Promote a culture that supports a respectful, diverse workplace where all individuals feel comfortable to be themselves and speak their minds.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of safety and culture via a strong presence in the field, a strong focus on rapport and knowing your team, and ongoing reflection and conversations.
  • Foster the technical and leadership skill sets of the Graduate Metallurgist and Operations personnel.
  • Engage with NewSafe and support the Opinion Leaders.

You will also possess the following technical capabilities

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) or other equivalent qualification.
  • Metallurgical understanding of flotation and the associated diagnostic tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Project scoping, resourcing, execution and reporting experience.
  • Metal reconciliation and troubleshooting exposure.
  • Minimum of 5yrs flotation experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Sharepoint.
  • OpEx and CapEx exposure.

  • Strong safety leadership and situational awareness.
  • An ability to influence culture in a positive, constructive manner.
  • Self-motivated and strategic.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with other functions, and to motivate and support a team to achieve business objectives.
