We are looking for a Mine Planning Specialist to deliver technical mine planning and project support to Rio Tinto bauxite operations located at Weipa and Gove. This role is a great opportunity for a proactive, technically savvy mining engineer to provide long term mine planning direction, leadership and support.Reporting to the Principal Advisor - Long Term Planning, you will be responsible for:

  • Reserve estimation and reporting in accordance with Rio Tinto and regulatory requirements.
  • Long term mine planning, and to provide guidance to the business on upcoming capital and project requirements.
  • Various project work to support mine planning and business requirements.
  • Performance analysis and reconciliation to ensure validity of planning assumptions.
  • Be proactive in the area of business improvement and transformation.

What you will bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Degree qualified in mining engineering or similar.
  • Site based, technical mine planning experience in an open pit environment.
  • Strong technical mining engineering skills (design, planning, scheduling).
  • Be proactive and enjoy a collaborative and team orientated working environment.
  • Proficient with mine planning software (Deswik experience will be advantageous).
