Specialist Engineer - Planning Systems

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Roster: Monday to Friday 

We are looking for a Specialist Engineer - Planning Systems to join our Operations Planning Technical Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Decarb journey.

Reporting to the Principal, Electrical Mining Systems, this key technical role exists to support the development of scheduling and planning tools required for the transition to electrical mining systems across the Fortescue Metals Group iron ore platform. The role requires strong knowledge of scheduling and planning software and knowledge of short, medium and long term planning systems and functions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working constructively within Operations Planning and other key stakeholder departments to identify, develop and implement planning systems and tools in required in support of the electrical transition
  • Work with software suppliers and in house technical functions to optimize electrical planning systems
  • Provide technical training and support to sites and Perth in the use and maintenance of electrical planning systems and tools
  • Identifying and managing critical business risks associated with electrical mining fleet and systems

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Technical Mining (or equivalent discipline) desired
  • >5 years’ experience in electrical mine planning and operations experience
  • Proven technical experience across short, medium and long term planning horizons.
  • Strong experience working with common planning tools and software
  • Strong understanding of Open Pit truck and shovel mining methods
  • Understanding of electrical mining fleet and systems is desirable
  • Understanding of key concepts of mining, processing, maintenance, finance, safety and sustainability
