We are looking for a Specialist - Mining Readiness to join the Asset Management and Engineering Services, Fixed Plant & Engineering team.

This role will provide specialist operational readiness (OR) advice and support to projects across Rio Tinto in area of discipline, at all stages of the project lifecycle, to facilitate and promote successful projects within Rio Tinto. 

You will lead the implementation of the OR program of work focused on mining (AHS rollout, ramp-up schedule, final detailed design, mine engineering and related NPI) by ensuring alignment across project stakeholders and giving direction for a successful implementation to deliver on the project business case.

Reporting to the Superintendent - Mining Readiness and working in a collaborative team environment, you will be responsible for:

  • Implement and communicate the operational readiness execution plan as scheduled with a focus on area of mining related aspects
  • Development of ramp-up plans for mine ops, detailed mine designs and updates to existing operating procedures 
  • For an autonomous deployment, establish a robust roll out and transition plan, for an effective transition to steady state operations
  • Use the life of mine, five-year plan and quarterly plan to provide clear and concise direction for key stakeholders
  • Lead design and risk reviews for operability, maintainability and reliability, influencing and facilitating operations involvement to achieve project outcomes supporting a smooth handover
  • Assist in managing the operational interface with the project during construction and handover
  • Support mine ops co-commitment delivery and commissioning of project
  • Collaborate with project and operations stakeholders, influencing and facilitating operations involvement to achieve project outcomes and supporting a smooth handover
  • Ensure operational readiness risks are identified and recorded on the projects Risk Register
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement activities and apply lessons learned 
  • Contribute to data and analysis to effectively forecast and track actual operational readiness costs and scheduled milestones
  • Role modelling safety leadership by striving for zero harm and demonstrating the Rio Tinto safety culture, especially through improved safety in design and functional safety

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary degree in a relevant field, for example, Engineering or Geology
  • Demonstrated experience in a site leadership role in surface mining operations
  • Knowledge of and experience working in an autonomous operation – experience in autonomous haulage transition, rollout and commissioning highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of mine engineering approaches, systems and processes
  • Understanding of RTIO Management of Change (MoC) system
  • Knowledge of project management and project site activities 
  • Exposure to risk management and business improvement methodologies
  • Well-developed people influencing, engagement and communication skills
  • Capability to write conclusive reports and create documents presenting requirements and developed plans, strategies and approaches
  • Proven ability in safety leadership in the mining or relevant industry

Previous experience working in a mining operation is not essential – we appreciate asset management experience gained through other industries.
