About the role

We are actively seeking the talents of an innovative and engaging engineer to join the Hope Downs 4 Operational Readiness team in the capacity of a Specialist Mining Readiness.

This role presents a terrific opportunity for an existing Production, Mine Planning, or Design Engineer to draw upon their existing leadership capabilities, to work in a high-performing team and drive key project deliverables. 

You will be part of the Operational Readiness team that goes above and beyond to successfully integrate safe and high-performing assets that exceed business expectations, contributing to a safely operable, maintainable, and reliable project result.  

Reporting to the Superintendent Mining Readiness you will: 

  • Provide operational input into engineering design and mine planning activities from order of magnitude to project implementation.
  • Create value by developing, implementing, and communicating the operational readiness execution plan, focused on mining-related aspects including project controls, reporting, risk management, and planning.
  • Align people by establishing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders who influence and impact both the operational readiness programme and the studies.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement through safety in design workshops.
  • Provide engineering guidance for the procurement of new equipment and tooling.
  • Facilitate the sustainable delivery of new assets into operation.
  • Role model safety leadership by striving for zero harm and demonstrating the Rio Tinto safety culture.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to safety of yourself and your team
  • Degree Qualification in (Engineering, Project Management, Mining or Science)
  • A current and valid C Class manual driver’s license
  • Knowledge of aspects of mining and processing operation and supporting processes
  • Exposure to risk management methodologies
  • Well-developed people influencing, engagement and communication skills
  • Capability to write conclusive reports and create documents presenting requirements and developed plans, strategies, and approaches
  • Proven ability in safety leadership in the mining or relevant industry

It will also be beneficial, but not essential if you have:

  • Knowledge of and work experience in operational readiness and/or commissioning processes

Located 50km north-west of Newman, Hope Downs 4 is a joint venture managed and operated by Rio Tinto, working in conjunction with nearby site Hope Downs 1. Hope Downs 4 provides excellent career growth and opportunities and the village provides excellent facilities for its FIFO workers.
