About Operational Performance Insights
The Operational Performance Insights (OPI) team is a global team within Asset Performance and Improvement. OPI’s purpose is to provide an accurate and unbiased view of productivity and compliance metrics benchmarked across BHP globally. Our aim is to enable improvement in spatial compliance and productivity across all planning and scheduling horizons. The role works in partnership with asset leaders and sites to drive sustained embedment and maturity of the spatial compliance to plan process, systems and routines.
About the Role
We are seeking a mining professional for the role of Specialist Operational Performance Insights to report to the Superintendent Compliance to Plan (C2P) within Operational Performance Insights to support WAIO, BMA and NSWEC.
Compliance to plan is a performance metric used to identify discrepancies between execution to plan, ranging from weekly schedules to 5 Year Plan. This enables BHP to deliver on the intended strategic value of mine plans and ensures our customers receive quality product. C2P is conducted in accordance with the Compliance to Plan Standard.
Key responsibilities in this role will include:
- Work in partnership with the assets and sites to understand the current C2P performance, as well as focus areas for improvement
- Contribute to Operational Performance Insights reporting routines for WAIO, BMA and NSWEC.
- Work with sites to embed and maintain fit for purpose C2P routines
- Train stakeholders in the use of OPI tools
- Continuously improve mine planning and production data, and engage with stakeholders to resolve any issues
- Development and promotion of new dashboard features and applications to customers within the business

The opportunity can be based in Perth with some site travel required. Flexible work options including rosters will be considered.
About You
You will have worked in a professional mining environment and are familiar with various mine planning horizons and mining techniques. The successful candidate will have a curious mind that seeks to understand ‘why’ and ask the appropriate questions to establish the root cause.
You will be able to establish credibility through your technical ability, listening to our users and excellent communication skills. An ability to constructively question ideas and results and build trusted relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders will be essential.
We are ideally seeking candidates that can demonstrate the following:
- Work experience as either a mine planner/ scheduler, geologist, analyst, or mine control.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with multiple layers of the organisational structure
- Strong understanding of mine planning and or production activities
- Understanding of mine planning and production data
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills to generate insights for improvement opportunities
- Ability to work remotely from your team, and leader
- Be a well organised self-starter that can manage multiple deadlines across multiple time horizons
- Ability to prepare and deliver high quality presentations and insights
- Experience with visualisation software (e.g. Spotfire, Power BI) or a willingness to learn
- Proficiency in MS Office is essential, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
