About the Role

This role will be working within BHP Metals Exploration, part of the world’s largest integrated resources company, who are moving into an exciting period of sustainable growth and development. With a clear strategy and focus on projects from early-stage concept development through to advanced exploration, we now have a newly created opportunity for a driven and passionate senior field technician to joint the team as Specialist Operation to further develop their career in exploration execution and delivery within one of the world's most exciting and successful exploration businesses.  

Reporting to the Superintendent Operations the Specialist Operation will be responsible for and be given the opportunity to:  

  • Deliver safe on-ground support services for brownfields and greenfields exploration projects.
  • Contribute to and promote a culture of care with visible field leadership in health, safety, and sustainability.
  • Management of geophysics, drilling and other contract partners to deliver services in remote environments.
  • Effective management of geological, camp and project consumables.
  • Deliver operational excellence when mobilising, setting up and de-mobilising caravan camps to remote exploration sites.
  • Drill sample processing and transport.
  • Maintain safe and efficient supply lines to working exploration projects.
  • Ensure compliance of field activities to operating standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to improve the safety, productivity, and value of our exploration projects. 

About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:  

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in operations of remote exploration programs.
  • A comprehensive understanding of a range of exploration activities including caravan camp set-up and operation, drilling, geophysics acquisition, core management, warehousing, and logistics.
  • A team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills enabling interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • An exposure to cultural heritage surveys and landowner engagement.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office and preferably GIS packages such as ArcGIS.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work autonomously in challenging conditions.
  • Existing qualifications for 4wd operation, remote first aid, forklift and working at heights will be advantageous.

Location

Role is base in various BHP Exploration operating sites around South Australia. Working on 8D6X roster with potential travel to other exploration projects Northern Territory and Western Australia.
