About the role
A new opportunity within our Operational Readiness & Studies team is now available as a Specialist Operational Readiness.
This role will be offered within a FIFO capacity with your roster being 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off (9-day fortnight).
Reporting to the Superintendent Operational Readiness & Studies, within Rail Maintenance, you will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of operational/closure readiness planning, processes, tools and guidance, along with executing projects for the wider Rail Maintenance Departments.
Key accountabilities for the successful candidate will include:
- Participate in supporting the Rail Maintenance Departments in the evolution of consistent good practices within operational readiness
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement and ownership in projects
- Develop and maintain effective relationships through collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Identify project delivery risks and problem solve
- Support compliance with standardised processes, systems and tools
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to drive a culture of participation and improvement
- Provide technical support and direction to project stakeholders, building on and sharing the lessons learnt
- Drive a culture of collaboration and engagement during the implementation of projects & improvement initiatives
- Assist in delivering the Rail Maintenance Excellence 90-day plan initiatives linked to the broader Railways Division Plan
About you
Along with a motivated mindset and proven experience within a similar role, or within a role where your skills are easily transferred, you will also have the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
It will also be highly desirable if you possess the following:
- Tertiary qualification or experience in Operational Readiness and/or Project Management
- Engineering or trade background in Maintenance or Rail industry experience
- A positive & patient attitude along with a flexible working approach
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including use of Microsoft applications including Project and Visio
- Strong networking, problem solving, and analytical skills
- The ability to work independently and actively participate within a team environment

Where you will be working
This opportunity is being offered in a FIFO capacity from Perth to our 7 Mile operation in Dampier. The roster will be offered as a 9-day fortnight. We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
