Business Improvement Specialist– Rail Maintenance

This role is a great opportunity for a high-performing individual to join the Rail Maintenance Performance Improvement Team and act as a leader for inspiring change, developing capability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

As the Business Improvement Specialist, you will work closely with department leaders, project managers and support staff across the Rail Maintenance Division to ensure effective capture and management of improvement initiatives.

Reporting to the Principal Performance Improvement, your role will see you responsible for the following:

  • Identification and delivery of improvement projects across the business on our journey to becoming the best operator
  • Facilitating the execution of our transformation programme focused on safety and productivity through the use of LEAN tools (including kaizen, practical problem solving, quick change over, 5S)
  • Working as a trusted advisor to influence and coach project teams to deliver sustainable results quickly and maximise value
  • Interpreting costs and production drivers to inform strategic thinking and the prioritisation of initiatives
  • Identifying and implementing automated reporting and solutions for the workforce
  • Undertaking KPI analysis, improvements and project work designed to add business value
  • Managing the framework for our Management of Change and Productivity systems

About you

Business Improvement will be a genuine interest to you, in addition to strong analytical and problem-solving skills and varied experiences in teaching, training or coaching.

You will also hold:

  • A high level of computer literacy with MS Office and Apps skills
  • A business-related degree or technical degree
  • Current C Class driver’s license (manual)

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Lean Six Sigma qualifications (Master Black Belt, Black Belt or Green Belt)
  • Change management, front line management or other relevant leadership development qualifications
  • Project engineering or planning experience
  • Business analyst or commercial experience

Where you will be working

This role is being offered residentially in the heart of Karratha or FIFO from Perth on a 9 days fortnight arrangement : 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off roster.

This opportunity will be located at our 7 Mile Operation in Dampier, a coastal town just a short drive from the beautiful coastal town of Karratha, located in the heart of the Pilbara and home to some of WA’s most beautiful beaches.

Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 15 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train is operated by a single driver and comprises up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.
