Our Cadia operation in ORE PROCESSING is now recruiting for the position of SPECIALIST – PLANT METALLURGY

Cadia Valley Operations a globally significant copper-gold site located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for  

Reporting to the Superintendent – Metallurgy, the Specialist – Plant Metallurgy will supervise the Plant Metallurgy group to improve the metallurgical and operational performance of the concentrators (Copper) in addition to providing technical support to the operations group.

With a focus on safety, the Specialist – Plant Metallurgy will focus on medium to long term technical issues to ensure maximum and sustainable profitability of the business.

You will have a strong attention to detail and be able to develop a detailed understanding of the 30+ Mtpa process flow sheet and operation of the two copper process plants at Cadia valley Operations. Additionally, you will have sound knowledge of minerals processing and gold extraction processing to enable the provision of metallurgical technical support to the site team and to engage external technical support, where and when required to achieve objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identification and rapid implementation of improvement opportunities, actively seeking opportunities for increased free cash flow and reduced costs.
  • Encouraging safety behaviours and actively support staff interactions out in the field.  
  • Active involvement in processing plant commissioning tasks for major projects between 1 – 100M+, providing robust product for the operating team and delivering on expected performance gains.
  • Preparing Capital Expenditure Requests for process plant circuit modifications and manage improvements up to 1M in spend.
  • Direct technical input into the operation of the processing plant to ensure budget and forecast production targets are met.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to area specific Plant Metallurgists and operations personnel for continuous performance improvement.

As well as being a self-starter, the ideal candidate will have a high level of commitment to improving the business through continuous improvement.

Cadia’s history is one of technology and innovation, such as the first 40ft SAG mill, Australia’s first molybdenum concentrator, the first deployment of Hydrofloat technology in hard rock metalliferous mining and first retrofit of the Concorde cell technology in metalliferous mining. All developments driven and deployed by the site metallurgical team. Cadia values personal ownership and, supports through action, you to develop your own technical ideas through to delivery in pursuit of safe free cash flow.

You will also possess the following: 

  • Degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering
  • High attention to detail in problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to approach tasks with tenacity and deliver to customer requirements.

Please note: This is a 5/2-4/3 (9-day Fortnight) residential role in Orange, NSW.
