Procurement Specialist - (Utilities)
- Joining the Business Partner Supply Chain & Services team, act as a commercial conduit between the Asset (RTIO) and the Global and Regional Categories team.
- Create sustainable value for Stakeholders and deliver innovative supply chain solutions that support the strategic plan of the business.
- Plan, advise and provide cost saving solutions for managing goods and services spend for Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) Utilities Division.
- Lead sustainability initiatives in support of Rio Tinto’s ESG objectives.

We are looking for a Procurement Specialist to work closely with the asset (RTIO) to determine good/services requirements and collaborate with the Global and Regional categories to ensure alignment of strategies and priorities. The Procurement Specialist will partner with the business, being the first point of contact for the asset and facilitating interactions with the wider procurement team.
This role is a great opportunity for someone with a partnership mindset coupled with a desire to build their procurement/category management experience. Flexible working arrangements will be considered for this role.
Reporting to the RTP Business Partner Core Services, you will:
- Drive ‘safety’ into the contract and procurement processes;
- Align Global and Regional category sourcing strategies with divisional priorities;
- Contribute to commercial goals by considering: local procurement and emerging market opportunities, productivity, total cost of ownership, payment and security of supply;
- Lead or support negotiations with key suppliers;
- Manage supplier performance and reinforce key performance indicators as necessary;
- Identify and monitor initiatives that deliver value to the business; and
- Deliver local sourcing projects.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Solid procurement/sourcing/contracts processes work experience;
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation expertise, coupled with the ability to formulate and present contracts and category strategies;
- Good communication skills to influence, engage and build strong rapport with key stakeholders;
- Effective time management skill, the ability to balance multiple and competing priorities; and
- Creative problem solving skills with strong strategic outlook and analytical capabilities.
Preferred, but not essential:
- Bachelor degree/post graduate qualification in Commerce, Engineering, Legal, Procurement, Supply Chain or equivalent
