We are seeking an experienced Specialist Procurement to lead a variety of key procurement activities including managing global data and market analytics for the Future Fuels category, category strategy development and execution, commercial strategy development & execution, source to contract activities and supplier relationship management.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor Future Fuels your remit will include but is not limited to:

  • Act as custodian for all Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s gas procurement contracts that supports its existing integrated gas fired power network including:
    • Gas Sales Agreements (GSA)
    • Master Spot Agreements (MSA)
    • Gas Transport Agreements (GTA)
    • Gas Banking and Gas Storage Agreements
  • Develop and Maintain strong customer and stakeholder relationships with various Rio Tinto business units (where relevant), including Utilities, Renewables WA, Diesel Transition Office etc. to ensure all consumer/stakeholder needs and requirements are met
  • Support Principal Advisor, Future Futures in managing and negotiating all existing and new GSA, MSA, GTAs, etc. to ensure there is sufficient fuel, capacity and flexibility to generate power
  • Develop and implement Quarterly Gas Trading mandates from customers and source for flexible Spot Gas supply to ensure fuel supply electricity demand is met and supplied
  • Develop and lead negotiation plans for key gas procurement activities, including GSA contracts, price reviews with aligned internal mandates and any other relevant projects.
  • Develop an understanding of global energy and low carbon fuel markets for framing alternative supply opportunities for Rio Tinto’s global operations
  • Support Principal Advisor, Future Fuels, in the implementation and maintenance of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) for all Tier 1 and 2 gas suppliers
  • Support the procurement Sourcing Strategy for BioFuels and Carbon products including, but not limited to
    • Biogas
    • Bio Ethanol
  • Lead Procurement Sourcing Strategy for Australian Clean Energy Regulator (CER) compliance Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
  • Support Momentum Opportunity Tracking including finalisation of actuals against planned opportunities for both Cash and Carbon opportunities.
  • Support Principal Advisor, Future Fuels in all relevant procurement strategy, activities and related projects

What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following:

  • Proficient and skilled in framing opportunities and analysis to refine presentations and projects for development and execution.
  • In depth market knowledge and analysis for WA gas market and other key established markets and new emerging markets to understand and project key market forces.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to summarise key information to deliver clear key messages to diverse audiences.
  • Strong negotiation skills to develop and enter Master Framework Agreements for the supply of gas and other low carbon fuels with commercial terms that maximise value and minimise risk exposure for Rio Tinto.
  • Ability to lead an integrated team to deliver joint deliverables with input from diverse internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to Partner with key external suppliers and stakeholders to co-develop projects and supply opportunities centred on achieving Rio Tinto’s strategic objectives.
  • Tertiary Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in WA Gas Market is essential but experience in broader Energy / Minerals is desirable.
