We are currently looking for a Specialist Procurement – Rail to work closely with our internal and external stakeholders across our Rail category, supporting Rolling Stock Maintenance strategy and operations.

Contributing to the achievement of Rio Tinto’s business priorities, duties include supporting management of flagship Rail contracts, support creation of category strategies, execution of end-to-end sourcing processes, and fostering relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers.

This role is a great opportunity for someone with a partnership mindset and an appetite to add value by collaborating closely with stakeholders to optimise the path forward in terms of achieving Rio Tinto’s rolling stock strategic objectives.

You will join a team of procurement professionals that drive strong engagement between their specific sites, Procurement lead teams and Procurement strategy owners. The role involves engaging site leadership regularly, facilitating key supplier relationship activities & delivering site specific rail procurement initiatives.

Reporting to the Senior Specialist Rail you will:

  • Drive ‘safety’ into the contract and procurement processes
  • Work collaboratively with the business and with stakeholders to identify opportunities and to develop and implement strategies that support the business
  • Establish strong supplier relationships that are aligned with the business goals and deliver on its priorities
  • Manage and influence supplier performance and work with both suppliers and internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to deliver value to the business
  • Support the Asset and category teams to deliver maximum value to the Asset
  • Manage key suppliers’ performance and reinforce KPI’s as necessary
  • Identify and monitor procurement initiatives and support the mitigation of any impact to the relevant rail strategies
  • Manage procurement supply chains and support systems including outline agreements
  • Solve for site specific requirements while balancing the contribution to broader strategies and leverage opportunities; and
  • Drive stakeholder compliance in the procurement process
  • Travel to Rio Tinto Iron Ore sites as required to engage with internal stakeholders and suppliers

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree/post graduate qualification in Commerce, Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain or equivalent
  • Demonstrated procurement/sourcing/contract management experience
  • Partnering mindset and a passion to engage multiple stakeholders, internally and externally
  • Excellent communication skills to influence, engage and build strong rapport with key stakeholders
  • Effective time management skills, the ability to balance multiple and competing priorities
  • Creative problem solving skills with strong strategic outlook and analytical capabilities; and,
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to influence and collaborate cross functionally
