About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Procurement for Technology, performs a Specialist role by providing domain category expertise in ensuring the business’s Procurement needs strategically match with the market, takes responsibility for supplier management and development as well as contract administration and engages with the team to track and monitor performance targets of optimal cost of ownership and surety of supply.  

Category Management

  • Strong understanding of Category Management within Procurement
  • Possesses exceptional commercial acumen, demonstrated through experience in sourcing and ongoing management of high-value agreements above USD 20M.
  • Leads the development of innovative, value-driven multi-year category strategies by leveraging deep category knowledge, market intelligence, awareness of technological developments, emerging markets awareness and a detailed understanding of business needs
  • Coordinates gathering of market intelligence and analysis by the team as input into category strategies 
  • Develops strong relationships with internal business leaders and key stakeholders to understand business objectives and translate these into Supply needs
  • Monitors application of Procurement category management processes within the team to support compliance and other requirements

Additional Accountabilities

Sourcing Strategy & Planning

  • Support the development, in conjunction with Principals and Specialists, of a sourcing plan aligned with category strategies and ensures contract coverage adequately supports the Functions’ business plans
  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders and challenges appropriately to develop sourcing strategies and supply solutions that balance stakeholder needs, productivity, commercial value and risk 
  • Builds compelling cases for change supporting sourcing initiatives and influences stakeholders and supply market to implement change
  • Ensures that the team implements sourcing projects on-time and in accordance with the plan, thereby minimizing disruption to the business
  • Leads adoption of innovative sourcing techniques within the team such as “clean sheeting”, e-auctions and TCO

Tender & Contract Management

  • Executes criticality strategic sourcing projects 
  • Executed supplier negotiations and leads higher value, more critical negotiations
  • Reviews market engagement strategies, negotiation plans and contract award recommendations
  • Reviews and approves contracts
  • Ensures capture of productivity improvements supporting measurement of team performance

Supplier Management

  • Identifies key suppliers in responsible sub-categories and determines appropriate supplier management regime
  • Develops relationships with identified key suppliers and works with the business to design performance measures and track and manage performance for selected key suppliers against contract and business requirements

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following: 

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience with a focus on category management 
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage a team (cross functional)
  • Proven ability to influence across functions
  • Experience developing category strategy documents and business cases
  • Competency (commercial, technical) in specified category and end-to-end category management
  • Deep understanding of sourcing techniques and strategies and knowledge of innovative sourcing methodologies such as TCO, “clean-sheeting”, e-auctions
  • Strong negotiation experience 
  • Ability to analyze complex business processes, risk factors and control systems
  • Risk management skills
  • Experience with ERP systems
