About the Role
Reporting to the Acid Plant / Feed Prep Supervisor, the Production Specialist is a proactive and inclusive leader, supporting the supervisor and production team to safely achieve the goals of the broader Smelter Team.
Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 7/7 day/night roster pattern arrangement with residential, FIFO (from Adelaide) or DIDO options available.
In this role you will:
- Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing and coaching your team.
- Identify, build and develop team capability through ongoing and regular coaching and development.
- Integrate with Maintenance counterparts to ensure effective, pro-actively planned maintenance to minimise unplanned downtime.
- Identify and assess risks using BHP risk management framework, and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes
- Plan and implement isolations in accordance with current standards, as required.
- Drive frontline improvement within the Crew using BOS tools.
- Assist in shutdown prioritisation and planning.
- Step up and relief Supervisor duties.
- Optimise day to day operations by effectively managing resources and understanding priority activities
- Liaise with on-coming / leaving shift personnel to ensure an effective changeover of plant and equipment information
- Ensure events and issues are effectively captured, raised and prioritised in SAP & EMS Notifications

About You
- Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’
- Have an underpinning focus on personal safety and understand the criticality of effective hazard identification and the implementation of effective controls
- Experience in a processing or production environment as a production leader with BHP Operating Practice understanding and maturity
- Have the ability to communicate well with all stakeholders and develop and grow interdepartmental and vendor relationships
- Experience in sulphuric acid production and/or concentrate filtering and drying
- Demonstrated experience providing leadership, mentoring and coaching of teams
- Passionate about fostering an engaged, inclusive and high performing team environment
