We are looking for a Specialist Project Controls to join our Project Services team. As part of a global team responsible for overseeing all of Rio Tinto’s major projects, you will focus on a broad range of projects impacting our Iron Ore businesses.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Project Control professional to extend their career. You will contribute to complex major projects (>250M) with a strong pipeline of future works. Reporting to the Principal Advisor Project Controls and working in a collaborative and global community within the Project Controls team, you will be:

  • Supporting project controls practices and ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto Projects systems, policies and procedures
  • Problem solving and providing advice to project and general managers regarding all project controls related issues including cost and progress, schedule and change management
  • Preparing and validating project reports, as well as regular auditing of project controls reporting, cost and schedule status
  • Partnering with Study Leads and Project Managers to deliver the project through study stage gates into execution
  • Providing input into the development and improvement of project controls procedures and practices to ensure procedures meet or exceed industry current best practice

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Hands-on experience in Project Controls attained within a major project environment
  • Experience working on Mining/Oil & Gas projects within an EPCM or Owners organisation and able to deal with multiple projects at the same time
  • Degree qualification in Business/Commerce, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Project Management or similar
  • Previous exposure to CMS and SAP is desirable
  • Advanced working knowledge of project control processes (cost, risk, estimating and scheduling) and the tools used to deliver a sound governance function
  • Must be a self-starter and self-directed to drive and work with minimal supervision
