Rio Tinto’s Operational Readiness team is seeking a Specialist Project Readiness, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) to become the operational interface of an NPI project from construction to handover.
Reporting to the Superintendent Mining Readiness, key accountabilities for the position will include:
- Role modelling safety leadership by striving for zero harm and demonstrating the Rio Tinto safety culture
- Ensuring project targets are aligned, while engaging and updating stakeholders and ensuring expectations are met
- Implementing and communicating the operational readiness plan, focussing on project management elements, cost, schedule, risk management and reporting
- Building and maintaining a strong relationship with all parties on site, to influence and facilitate operations
- Integrating project presence and workstreams into operations business planning processes and work management activities/scheduling
- Providing financial insights to influence sound a decision-making process
- Ensuring risks are identified and recorded on the risk register and assigned actions are regularly updated
- Effectively forecasting, tracking and reporting on actual operational costs and scheduled milestones.
This permanent position will be offered on a fly in, fly out roster working 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, flying out of Perth, Western Australia. This position will suit a Perth resident or someone willing to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis.
About you
Ideally, applicants will have:
- Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline (i.e., business, engineering or project management)
- Demonstrated experience in non-process infrastructure (NPI) with project delivery capability gained in a large-scale mining operation
- In-depth knowledge of project management (scoping, planning, scheduling, resource planning and cost estimation)
- The ability to engagement and communicate and influence stakeholders
- Advanced user of Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Power BI
- Exposure to risk management and business improvement methodologies
- Capability to write conclusive reports and create documents presenting requirements and developed plans, strategies and approaches
- A ‘C’ class drivers’ licence

Where you will be working
Located in the East Pilbara Region approximately 1100 km northeast of Perth on Banjima and Nyiyaparli land, Greater Hope Downs comprises of two open pit mines – Hope Downs 1 (dry plant facility) and Hope Downs 4 (wet plant facility). Operations at Greater Hope Downs include innovative and business leading technologies of autonomous haul trucks and production drills. Sustainable technology is being utilised at Greater Hope Downs to enhance safety, people engagement and efficiency. Through continued deployment of innovative technologies and sustained high-grade Iron Ore deposits, Greater Hope Downs is operationally leading with a strong demonstrated commitment to people and safety above all else.
