About Nickel West

With both underground and open pit operations, this role will provide the opportunity for someone to work in a complex, technically challenging environment and shape the strategic plan for what is evolving as a very important future-facing commodity in the BHP portfolio.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Technical and Studies, the Specialist Project Studies will provide support to Mining projects being successfully delivered across Nickel West. You will work with the broader team to provide project services and influence outcomes to be on-time and on-budget.
This role is based in Perth with travel to site as required and offering flexibility for that unique work/life balance.
In this role you will:
- Develop, forecast and benchmark project costs and estimates in line with industry standards, principles and practices
- Define project objectives and schedules, identify critical activities, monitor the project plan/schedule that drive continuous improvement initiatives across projects at BHP
- Develop safe project delivery and contractor performance strategies to maximise portfolio value and enhance improvement and innovation
- Monitor and manage project performance to deliver projects in line with safety standards, requirements, budget and scope
- Plan, track the delivery of and manage a project to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes
- Identify opportunities to optimise value, manages associated risks and applies Optimised With/Optimised Without framework principles to create and preserve maximum value from projects across BHP
About You
Experienced in working within dynamic environments, you will be an effective problem solver with strong influencing skills, an ability to clearly communicate business benefits, identify and assess risks, and recognise project dependencies.
You will have divergent and convergent thinking skills, a strong understanding of business value and be effective at stakeholder management. Your ability to manage complexity and ambiguity will be a key strength in this role.
- Degree qualified in either Geology or Mining Engineering
- Previous experience in a mining operation
- Demonstrated experience working across full project lifecycles, especially front-end studies
- Experience developing and integrating projects schedules
- Previous exposure working with forecasting and cost control
- Exposure to Primavera P6 or MS Project
- The ability to prioritise and effectively manage multiple deliverables across stakeholders
- A cohesive working style that provides holistic, engaged support to successfully deliver
