About the Role

Reporting to the Study Lead, you will support the development of Projects through Initiation, Identification, Selection and Definition investment phases, utilising your technical knowledge and experience. This role will give you the opportunity to build on a broad range of skills including critical thinking, problem solving, effective communication, negotiation, organisation and workload prioritisation. You will be encouraged to take ownership for driving Projects to successful outcomes within a safe and supportive team environment. Other key accountabilities (in collaboration with the Lead Project Studies) will include:

  • Support the development of studies via the functional model and in accordance with Our Requirements and Minerals Australia Projects Internal Standard.
  • Support the development of key recommendations and decisions, contributing to value optimisation, embedding high quality, robustness and ensuring solutions and documents are developed in accordance with BHP’s project systems.
  • Collaboration with Project Services to track project schedule, cost and procurement, including reporting Project progress.
  • Development and maintenance of Field Leadership and risk schedules to ensure project risks are identified and actively managed.

The Specialist Project Studies roles are full-time, Perth based positions with some site travel.

About You

Experienced working within dynamic environments, you will be an effective problem solver and compelling influencer, able to clearly communicate business benefits, risks, and project dependencies.

You will have divergent and convergent thinking skills, a strong understanding of business value and be adept at stakeholder management. Your ability to manage complexity and ambiguity will be a key strength in this role. You will be experienced in leading and managing teams and will have excellent project management experience. Other key attributes include:

  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in Safety Leadership, maintain project culture and performance recognition.
  • Communication and influencing skills, including the ability to produce concise reports and presentations to management.
  • Influencing, motivational and negotiating skills with the ability to build credibility and trust across all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage change with resilience.
  • Flexibility to travel where required.
  • Passion for creating an engaging and supportive culture.
  • You will be degree qualified in engineering, project management, business or a relevant discipline, or have equivalent industry experience. Post Graduate qualifications in Business or Project Management and/or experience with mine development and port & rail projects will be viewed favourably but is not mandatory.
