About the Role

Reporting to the Lead(s) across the Rail, Fleet and Power Decarbonisation Studies within the Minerals Australia Planning & Technical Strategic Services group. These exciting roles will support critical studies within the cross-functional team and contribute to the ultimate delivery of the BHP Decarbonisation program. The roles(s) will work across all aspects of the project lifecycle from identification to handover. We are seeking candidates for multiple positions, that can be based in Brisbane or Perth.

  • Specialist – Power Road Map
  • Specialist – Power Studies
  • Specialist – Rail Studies
  • Specialist – Fleet Studies

In these roles you will:

  • Support strategic studies contributing to BHP’s decarbonisation project pipeline;
  • Assist with the analysis and review of input from technical and commercial functions, ensuring alignment with business objectives;
  • Support the development of key recommendations and decisions, contributing to value optimisation, embedding high quality, robustness and ensuring solutions and documents are developed in accordance with BHP’s project systems;
  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently as required;
  • Collaborate and cooperate in cross functional teams to identify and deliver innovative value adding solutions;
  • Engage effectively with team members, project stakeholders and develop documents and presentations to support Strategic Services leadership at decision making forums;
  • Prepare study documentation including end of phase study reports and Study Work Plans;
  • Progress reporting and KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) tracking consistent with Strategic Services operating model and processes e.g., Agile, Jira;
  • Captures and communicates internal lessons learned and external best practices across the project and identifies opportunities for improvement;;
  • Ensure that project risks are identified and actively managed throughout project development phases; and
  • Ensure that projects are optimised for value throughout project development phases, and that these optimisations are recorded.

About You

Experienced in working within studies, you will be an effective problem solver and with the ability to understand and clearly communicate business benefits, risks, and project dependencies.

You will have divergent and convergent thinking skills along with an understanding of business value and are adept at stakeholder management. Your ability to manage multiple levels of complexity and ambiguity will be a key strength in this role.

You will take pride in driving strategic options that enhance BHP’s value. Success in this role will require effective communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Degree qualifications in science, technology, engineering, an aligned discipline or project management are preferable but not essential in the presence of significant relevant experience;
  • Demonstrated understanding of project study and delivery methodology and requirements across all stages of project lifecycles OR experience supporting development and communicating of high-level strategy is necessary;
  • Exposure to electrical or renewables projects is advantageous but not essential;
  • Experience with technical or commercial aspects of projects;
  • Partnership and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Resources sector, manufacturing, and major project experience with exposure to strategy development, investment evaluation and business planning in a corporate environment is highly valued.
