About the Role

Reporting to the Superintendent Mods & Ops projects, you will draw on your proficient leadership and technical capabilities to plan, manage and execute assigned projects and engineering work requests at site. As part of a highly collaborative team, you will work with all internal and external stakeholders and manage engineering contractors to achieve the right outcome for the business. This role allows for professional development and the opportunity to step-up as part of succession planning. This role is based at our Peak Downs Mine site on a 5/2 roster (with flex). The successful candidate will have flexible options, or can also select to live residentially. In this role you will:  

  • Project Manage the planning, safe execution, and commissioning of approved Modifications and Small Projects (<US$20M) and deliver work on scope, schedule, cost and safety targets.
  • Support the 2 & 5 year capital portfolio planning for the asset, through preparing and validating opportunity assessments, and prioritising projects in accordance with corporate alignment planning process.
  • Management and leadership of other owners team contractors to deliver the multi-discipline annual capital program in accordance with the BHP project framework.
  • Undertake the execution of design, specification, costing, scoping, and evaluation report works that are required for the execution of plant/equipment modifications and infrastructure projects.
  • Engage the operation across all departments, including key stakeholders, suppliers, vendors and contractors.
  • Actively investigate and implement safety, productivity, and cost initiatives across site.
  • Lead construction and commissioning activities for projects and manage relevant risks.
  • Ensure Safety, Constructability, Operability and Maintainability is preserved throughout the design lifecycle process.

About You

Your project management skills will be proficient, as will your ability to influence and build relationship with a range of stakeholders. Tertiary qualification are preferred, however it will be your ability to understand the Mining Industry and technical requirements which will be essential. You will possess a “step-up”, “can do” attitude and the willingness to take on responsibilities Additionally, the following personal qualities are essential:  

  • Strong people management skills, with demonstrated experience leading workgroups and contractors;
  • Experience in project development and front end loading;
  • Developed analytical and problem solving skills, and proven ability to communicate plans clearly and concisely;
  • Previous project management experience;
  • Strong communication, people and leadership skills;
  • Sound technical competency in engineering, ideally Civil, Electrical or Mechanical disciplines;
  • Conscientious and results driven;
  • Resilient, with the ability to work autonomously.
