About the Role

At BHP, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Specialist Trainer - Rail Academy to support the development of our Rail Network Maintenance workforce and help build safe, capable and high-performing teams across our operations. Based within the Rail Academy, this role plays a critical part in delivering competency-based training, coaching and assessment programs that develop the skills required to operate and maintain one of the world's largest rail networks.

Reporting to the RNM Training Supervisor, you will design, deliver and assess training programs that support Track Resurfacing and Work Train operations. You will work closely with operational stakeholders to ensure training solutions meet business requirements while maintaining compliance with industry and BHP standards. 

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging classroom, field-based and workplace training programs.
• Conduct competency assessments using approved methodologies.
• Review, develop and maintain training and assessment materials.
• Coach, mentor and support workforce capability development.
• Manage training schedules, requests and reporting requirements.
• Maintain training records and evidence in accordance with governance standards.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to identify capability development opportunities.

About You

You are an experienced trainer with a strong operational background and a genuine passion for developing others. You build trusted relationships, communicate effectively and thrive in environments where safety, capability and continuous improvement are valued.

To be successful, you will have:

• Demonstrated experience delivering competency-based training and assessments.
• Strong coaching, mentoring and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Assessor Skill Set (TAESS00011 or TAESS00019) or equivalent.
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) advantageous.
• Operational experience within rail maintenance, track resurfacing, work trains or related heavy industry environments.
• Strong understanding of training compliance, governance and record management requirements.
• Excellent organisational, planning and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
