About the role

We are looking for experienced Specialist- Remote Operated Vehicles who will be responsible for the execution of the Pacific Operations ROV Program across Weipa. This technology includes but not limited to multirotor and fixed wing drone operations using a variety of payloads and sensors, ground rovers and submersible ROVs.

This role is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to take the next step in their career working for a global mining company. Reporting to the Superintendent Business Improvement you will be required to:

  • Lead, grow and support the ROV Program for Weipa.
  • Implement aligned systematic processes and procedures for Weipa.
  • Be responsible for the end to end project management of identified improvement initiatives.
  • Improve productivity, financials and safety through research and development, deployment and support of new or proven ROV technology as it arises and strong change management.
  • Use PMO1 data/financial analytics, BI tools and methodologies to identify business’ full potential opportunities and lead improvement projects to ensure sustainable value is created.
  • Use technical knowledge to solve complex problems and recommend solutions across site.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with leaders and stakeholders across site.
  • Coach and support leaders and stakeholders in the opportunities, implementation and embedding of ROV technology and systems.
  • Provide experienced technical support to stakeholders and pilots across the sites.
  • Organise accreditation courses, deliver training and conduct audits on sites pilots.

  • A Manual C Class Drivers License

  • RePL - Remote Pilot License and AROC
  • Understanding of C7/BARS Regulations
  • Remote Pilots License for Multirotor 25kg
  • Technical understanding of CASA regulations
  • Chief Remote Pilot experience
  • Experience with flight management software platforms
  • Technical knowledge and piloting skills of a range of ROV systems
  • Understanding of maintenance requirements for ROV fleets
  • Understanding of aviation risk assessment requirements
  • Experience using business improvement methodologies such as: KAIZEN, Lean Six Sigma and Change Management

Where you’ll be working

Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.

Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape, and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
