About the role

The Resource and Mining Services team are seeking a Specialist in a flexible work arrangement (3 days per week). We are looking for a highly driven and strategically astute individual, who has a desire to deliver value within the portfolio, minimise risk for Rio Tinto and develop innovative procurement solutions.

Reporting to the Manager Resource and Mining Services, you will:

  • Values: Demonstrate the application of Rio Tinto’s values of Courage, Care and Curiosity.
  • Strategy: Development and delivery of category strategies aligned with Rio Tinto business objectives.
  • Relationship: Establish long term, sustainable relationships with the key suppliers, based on innovation, sustainability, and mutual value creation.
  • Relationship: Create and maintain credible and trusting relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of procurement effort with business needs and opportunities.
  • Partnership: Deliver value through the day-to-day category management & SRM activities in support of the key supplier partnership and contribute to the market engagement and its implementation.
  • Negotiation: Apply an effective negotiation process to deliver beneficial contractual and commercial outcomes for Rio Tinto.
  • Problem Solving: Have a willingness to challenge the status quo and find creative ways to solve problems with safe outcomes.
  • Risk: Support the business with the identification and mitigation of the key risks.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will preferably require:

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in strategic procurement, category management and supplier relationship management.
  • An ability to influence without direct line authority and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Proven ability to proactively manage stakeholders and build strong relationships.
  • Effective time management skills, the ability to balance multiple and competing priorities.
  • Strong commercial acumen, interpersonal skills and negotiation ability.
  • Previous experience in mining is highly desirable.
