About the role
We are seeking a Specialist Risk and Capital to join our Rail Maintenance Excellence team. This role is a great opportunity for an energetic and performance driven individual who is keen to develop their leadership skills. In this role you will play a pivotal role in reporting, analytics and governance of our risk management and capital programs that deliver safe and efficient operations across our Rail network.
Reporting to the Operational Excellence Manager, and working in a supportive and collaborative environment, you will be:
- Providing support and governance across the Rail Maintenance capital portfolio
- Developing, governing, and coordinating the divisional annual and 5-year Capital Portfolio
- Effectively prioritising capital and completing accurate forecasting and cashflows
- Actively developing financial and risk acumen whilst coaching on best practice to site leaders, project managers and teams across risk and capital systems and processes
- Working closely with stakeholders within and across the business for reporting and insights on capital status to support decision making of capital portfolio priorities
- Engaging with leaders and partners to integrate risk into operational decision-making and core business processes including investment in projects, planning and assurance activities
- Encouraging proactive management of risks to the benefit of the business through monitoring overall risk owner performance, control effectiveness, action management, facilitating divisional risk reviews and escalating issues as required
- Actively identify and deliver improvement opportunities
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, ability to influence across various levels of the organisation to achieve a common goal and a passion to drive improvement. You will also have an eye for detail and an analytical mindset.
About you
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and the team
- A degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or related field will be highly regarded
- Experience in project leadership, capital, process improvements or similar
- Highly effective organisational, time management, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Proven ability to communicate new ideas, influence stakeholders and manage conflict
- Ability to work both autonomously and within a team
- A high level of computer literacy including developing, automating, and managing spreadsheets, reports, and the ability to learn new software
- Current C Class driver’s license (manual)

Where you will be working
This role is being offered residentially in the heart of Karratha or FIFO from Perth on a 9 days fortnight arrangement : 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off roster.
This opportunity will predominantly be located at our 7 Mile Operation in Dampier, a coastal town just a short drive from the beautiful coastal town of Karratha, located in the heart of the Pilbara and home to some of WA’s most beautiful beaches.
Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 15 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train is operated by a single driver and comprises up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.
