At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential. With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities. Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.

Come and be a part of this success.

Olympic Dam is one of the world's most significant deposits of copper, gold, and uranium. Located 560 kilometres north of Adelaide, South Australia, Olympic Dam is a part of our Minerals Australia operation. It's made up of underground and surface operations and operates a fully integrated processing facility from ore to metal.

About the Role

Going home safe remains our number one priority. While BHP’s safety performance has improved considerably over past years, an analysis of reported injuries and near misses with fatality potential showed there is more work to do.

Olympic Dam’s fatality elimination program is a step change towards our goal of zero fatalities. This fatal risk reduction program will deliver technology, engineering, infrastructure, and procedural improvements that keep us safe.

Supporting the successful outcome of this program we currently have three opportunities working with the vehicle, electrical, and entanglement/energy release risks portfolios. We’re looking for someone to collaborate with stakeholders and lead safety improvement initiatives at Olympic Dam.

This is a fantastic opportunity to diversify your experience while using your current unique knowledge and skills.

Reporting to Superintendent Safety, your key delivery will include:

  • Develop and update safety standards, procedures, and training documentation.
  • Lead studies and pilots to determine the feasibility of technologies and solutions.
  • Initiate projects by defining scope, cost estimating, and prioritisation based on delivering maximum value.
  • Support BHP's change management processes to ensure changes are successfully embedded in the operation.

About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Engaging communication and influencing skills, and comfortable working with a diverse group of technical and operations professionals.
  • Technical writing and well-presented written presentation skills.
  • Experience with risk management or project development is desirable.
  • Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way.

Location and Roster

This role is based in Adelaide on a Monday-Friday roster, offering a quality standard of living without the high costs of most other Australian capital cities.

Adelaide offers a Mediterranean climate, beach-side lifestyle, cosmopolitan cafés and restaurants and world-class wine regions just an hour away.  All this plus an annual international festivals and events calendar make Adelaide a vibrant, cultured, friendly environment to live, work and play in.

This role will also involve some site travel as required.

What is on offer?

  • Permanent employment with BHP with all the benefits of full-time work.
  • Flexible working options, benefits to enable your work-life balance.
  • Competitive remuneration.
  • Annual performance incentive and salary review.
  • Generous share match scheme.
  • Various leave options.
