ABOUT OUR PERTH OFFICE
South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, External Affairs, Sustainability Strategy, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk, Legal and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a twelve month fixed term position at our head office in Perth.
In the Specialist Risk Verification role, you'll enhance our risk management system to ensure workplace safety across diverse operations. Your role involves streamlining and optimising control verification questionnaires, developing governance for their management, and identifying best practices. You'll create training materials to align our risk community and work closely with the RMS team to update verification systems. This position is crucial in refining our approach to risk management, ultimately contributing to our primary goal of guaranteeing that everyone goes home safe and well every day.
Reporting to the Principal Data Analytics, key responsibilities include:
- Enhance questionnaire effectiveness to provide more precise, relevant data, enabling better-informed decision-making and prioritisation of risk management efforts
- Develop a comprehensive governance framework for questionnaire creation, review, and quality standards while streamlining the questionnaire library and managing mandated control verifications for material safety risks
- Engage with the South32 risk community to identify best practices in field verification techniques and improve verification training documentation and supporting materials
- Identify system improvement opportunities, develop and execute a control verification improvement plan, and provide regular progress updates
ABOUT YOU
You will ideally have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Minimum three years experience in risk management or assurance, with solid exposure to control verification and analysis
- Experienced in risk management frameworks with a proven track record in developing governance and process documentation
- Skilled in designing and critically evaluating control verification activities, with an eye for improvement and optimisation
- Strong stakeholder management abilities, adept at enhancing questionnaire effectiveness and building business-wide capabilities
- Excellent analytical skills (both qualitative and quantitative) combined with well-developed communication and facilitation abilities
- Proficient in creating work instructions and training materials to support new governance processes
- Familiarity with risk management systems (especially SAI360 E&HS) and ability to develop and implement questionnaires within such systems is highly valued
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary level qualification in Science / Engineering Safety or related disciplines.
