ABOUT THE ROLE

The Worsley Safety and Training team are seeking a Safety Specialist. This role will be predominately based around facilitation and coaching on investigations into serious incidents and injuries.

This role is a permanent role based at the Worsley Alumina Refinery, 45minutes from Bunbury and 20minutes from Collie. You will be required to facilitate investigations at the Boddington Mine and the Bunbury Port as the need arises.

You will interpret and apply workplace safety and health legislation, and relevant company procedures as part of the investigative process. Also conduct quality investigative interviews and reporting of investigations and their outcomes. Support in determining corrective actions, allocate action owners, and ensure actions have been effectively closed out within specified time frames.

The Safety Specialist will assist in the development and delivery of training to leadership and field-based workers to ensure a pro-active incident reporting culture and constructive participation within incident investigation processes. Training will involve classroom based formal training as well as mentoring in field.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:  

  • Influence the strategic direction of the Refinery operation with respect to safety management to reduce long-term risk exposure and promote enduring safety outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain the safety material risk critical controls and performance standards for HSE owned work at the Refinery.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:  

  • Professional who has led, guided, developed, and influenced in investigation processes with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a relevant industry.
  • Knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to the effective management of safety related risks.
  • Sound report writing skills.
  • Ability to influence and gain the trust of the operational leadership team.
  • Strong internal and external customer service focus.

Qualifications for this position are:

  • ICAM For Lead Investigators or equivalent process knowledge.
  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety - BSB41419
